Anarquismos by Pablo Fidalgo, 2018

1.       ANARCHY IS THE SILENCED STORY OF A CRACK IN HISTORY

2.       A CRACK IN HISTORY SIGNALS THE POSSIBILITY OF A DIFFERENT WAY OF LIFE

3.       ANARCHY WAS A DIFFERENT WAY OF LIFE THAT DID NOT REMAIN AS A POSSIBILITY

4.       ANARCHY WAS A DIFFERENT WAY OF LIFE THAT REMAINED OUT OF THE STORY

5.       ANARCHY DISAPEARED FROM HISTORY BUT REMAINED IN THE BODIES

6.       THE BODIES TOUCHED OTHER BODIES, AND OTHER BODIES, AND OTHER BODIES...

7.       ANARCHY REMAINED IN THE GESTURES OF THE BODIES

8.       THE GESTURES PASSED FROM ONE BODY TO ANOTHER, AND TO ANOTHER AND TO ANOTHER

9.       AND THEY ARRIVED TO US

10.   THE ANARCHIC GESTURE IS IN US

The history of anarchy in Spain is completely unknown and systematically concealed. The first question is: how does the anarchic gesture survive today? In what bodies does it live? From the book "The Short Summer of Anarchy", by Enzensberger, we question the different ways of writing history and making history. It is curious that one of the most valuable documents on anarchy was written by a German, interviewing people, almost in hiding, in the late 80's. In that book, however, a community is drawn up with a very clear spirit and a need to leave vital memory of a different form of existence and relationship. In no other country as in Spain did anarchy go so far and came to have as many affiliates and so much power as in the period from the summer of 1936 to 1939, especially in the areas of Catalonia and Aragon.

In the summer of 2005, four young theater students decide to live together in a neighbourhood of Madrid and construct a group biography in which they live, eat, write and sleep together. This is a story that unfolds, a story that ends like all stories of communities. On stage, the three members of the group (1, 2 and 3) talk about 0, disappeared some time ago and without any promise to return to the house. Devoid of name and identity, word and movement, they will reconstruct a complex history, with power games, where nobody is treated well, and where family schemes based on silence and fear are reproduced. Thus, we will discover the difficulties and day to day of these four young people who try to invent a world, a system and their own unique way of creation. We ask ourselves, how much intelligence, how much resistance does it take to live outside the world, or with one foot inside and one outside? And with the distance of the years we ask ourselves, what does it take to get to the end, to assume failure? What does it take to rescue the gestures of what could not be?

On stage

A very simple set. In the center of the scene a house will be drawn. Through the details, and rescuing fragments of newspapers and objects, the story of these four people will be revealed as a great story of love and violence. A story abruptly cut off by the flight or trip of one of them. Following a logic of traditional storytellers, without stage design, the three performers will look for these resistance gestures: the laugh in inappropriate moments, the killings in Vitoria in 76, a football match in Vilanova de Arousa in 82, the Kurdish communes in Rojava, the death of Blanquita, the lack of money, the letters from the grandparents, a trip in carriage in the region of Cantabria, a trip by foot along the Guadiana river, a trip to Patagonia, the friends who will not be able to live from their art, the Durruti column, Simone Weil writings, Casas Viejas, the anarchy occupies the place of religion, what religion? The conscious workers, Enzensberger gestures, Antonio B. El Ruso, the old people that still live to tell it, the love gestures, the impossible communities, the impossible childhoods…

Anarchy is present in the gestures, in what we tell ourselves, in the gestures of love that we make, in the flight of history that opens another world. Over a blank space the bodies will be read as a text (a landscape) about a country that will never be what it could have been, but it has to bear the gestures of those that do not forget, of those that read, of those that do not want to be trapped.
