The Procrastination Marathon

Sílvia Pinto Coelho with Lília Mestre & Mark Tompkins, Vera Mantero, Jeroen Peeters, Mariana Tengner Barros and João Bento, 2021

We say PROCRASTINATION like we say RESISTANCE.

Persistence in inattention to an unfinished task.

We say PROCRASTINATION as we say IMPROVISATION.

The gymnastics of an instinct conquered by time spent working.

We say SCHOOL like we say CHOICE.

Putting forward the hypothesis of a school of freedom.

SCHOOL of freedom of CHOICE?

Freedom to seek alternatives to productivity, exhaustion and the captivation of time for attention to work.

There is a process rich in the invention of the unknown in the act of procrastination, of making it last. Improvisers, artists, curious and students in the field of dance and performance are invited to attend the Marathon, a durational event of improvised performance and speech that may last up to ten hours, activating a set of relational premises we call the Procrastination Score.

In 2020, during the first confinement a Reading Group was dedicated to thinking together from texts about slowing down, procrastinating, procrastinating, sabotaging, laziness, modes of production; and also, of course, about the confinements and the pandemic.
