All you need is plankton

by Vera Mantero, 2020

In 2019, the IMF claimed to have discovered in whales the solution for excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Whales can save us from global warming! Uh, well, but, hmm, this will happen only IF the numbers of whales in the oceans get back to what they were before we intensively hunted them, for at least in the last 150 years... It's a big IF... We'll be able to convince the whales to enter in a regime of frenzied reproduction as quickly as possible to save us?... Save us, the ones who destroyed them?... How to convince them?...

Vera Mantero

Vera Mantero shares her research to raise awareness of individual and collective sense of ecology, the understanding of environmental crimes, and the role of the rights of nature.

A research on how whales play a huge role in capturing CO2 from the atmosphere. On one hand, because they capture and store CO2 in their bodies throughout their long life, and on the other hand, because they fertilize plankton with their feces in surface water, and of that process, the phytoplankton produces 50% of the oxygen and captures 40% of the carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. So, the lung of the planet, as much as we deeply love the Amazon and want to preserve it absolutely, the lung of the planet is certainly phytoplankton because for every two gulps of air we breathe, one owes it to phytoplankton...
