Henrique Furtado Vieira
Henrique Furtado Vieira is a dancer, performer and choreographer based in Lisbon. Initially trained in Energy and Environmental Engineering, he later developed his artistic education in several French institutions, including INSA Lyon, the CDC of Toulouse (Extensions), and the Prototype II and Dialogues III programmes at the Royaumont Abbey.
Since then, he has built a practice that moves across choreographic creation, performance, and collaboration with various artists, such as Bleuène Madelaine, Eric Languet, Aurélien Richard, Céline Cartillier, Tino Sehgal, Salomé Lamas, André Uerba, Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz, Ana Renata Polónia, Vera Mantero, Boris Charmatz and Tania Soubry. More recently, he has collaborated as a dramaturg with Nicolas Hubert (Compagnie Épiderme) and Giulia Arduca (Compagnie Ke Kosa).
His artistic work, presented in national and international institutions - including Aerowaves, CDC Toulouse, the Gothenburg Theatre and Dance Festival, Romaeuropa Festival, Teatro Municipal do Porto, Festival Temps d’Images, Festival Circular, Espaço do Tempo and CCB - is marked by the layering of styles and genres, the presence of spoken word in dance, and the imaginative spaces it evokes. His creations are often developed in synergy with other artists, such as Bibi Ha Bibi (with Aloun Marchal), Stand still you ever-moving spheres of heaven (with Chiara Taviani) and Morrer pelos Passarinhos (with Lígia Soares).
In parallel, he is engaged in research, pedagogy and writing related to dance, collaborating with different structures and projects (O Rumo do Fumo, Unlock Dancing Plaza, Ballet Contemporâneo do Norte, Colectivo 84, Comédias do Minho, GrETUA, among others). He co-curated the second edition of the project Matéria alongside Catarina Vieira and Josefa Pereira, organising monthly open gatherings for the sharing of artistic practices.
In recent years, he has also deepened his interest in pedagogy with children and adolescents, leading workshops and educational projects across the country. As an emotional education facilitator, he is certified by the LUPA programme of Escola das Emoções and trained in Nonviolent Communication, with a focus on its application with children. Nourished by these experiences, he is committed to creating spaces of relation and expression where each person - and, in particular, each child - can feel safe, seen and valued.
