Ombro Amigo stems from a desire to explore friendship as a unique form of love that is often marginalised in the contemporary imagination. In contrast to romantic and familial love, whose roles and functions are clearly rooted in social and cultural structures, friendship resists utilitarian classification, eluding many of the normative expectations that govern other types of relationships.
This project emerged as an opportunity for three independent artists to reunite; their paths had previously crossed during earlier creative projects, enabling them to strengthen bonds of friendship and collaboration. The closeness and rapport developed between the artists sparked a desire to create together once more, inspiring the very concept of the project, which is rooted in this sense of connection. This process brings together three performers with unique yet complementary backgrounds, combining personal creative work in the worlds of dance and performance with other artistic fields, such as set design, writing and graphic art.
Ombro Amigo presents itself as an open and intimate, exploratory and participatory experience, full of humour and warmth, in which young audiences are invited to reflect on the place friendship occupies in their lives. In a performative format still in the early stages of development, the scenes may include games, improvisation and direct dialogue with the audience, so that each participant can rediscover the richness and complexity of this kind of love. Friendship will be celebrated as a space where all contradictions – between independence
and complicity, freedom and commitment, solidity and lightness – are permitted.
