THE SOUND OF GESTURE facilitates a transdisciplinary encounter between musicians, dancers, and choreographer Lander Patrick. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in research developed over more than five years, demonstrated in works such as BATE FADO and MAÇÃ DE ADÃO.
In THE SOUND OF GESTURE, Lander and the group of trainees will create physical scores that are coupled with musical scores, challenging dialogues between sound and physicality, between notes and muscles, between rhythms and movements. This encounter aims to think of the body as a musical and performative parameter. The power of the presence of the musician or dancer's body is matched by the power of the music they produce. By emancipating this mobility in each individual, we question the implications for music that is played to dance to and how the audience perceives music that is also physical.
This workshop reflects the desire to continue to push the boundaries of music and dance, activating new vitalities that arise from the union between these two ancestral domains, which have come down to us united, but which academia and ultra-specialization tend to separate.
